Getting Ready to Meet Your Candidates

electionshomebanner

You don’t have long to wait before you meet the students putting themselves forward to be your next Student Leaders.

Candidates will be announced on Tuesday 9 June at 12:00 (UK time). Once announced, each candidate will share a manifesto — a set of statements explaining who they are, what they care about, and what they’ll work on if elected.

The good news? Every candidate uses the same manifesto structure, making it easier for you to compare them fairly and decide who really has your needs and interests at heart.

Top Tips for Comparing Student Leader Candidates

Here’s how to read between the lines and make your vote count.

👋 Get to Know Them

Each manifesto starts with an introduction. This is your chance to understand who they are as a student and what shapes their perspective. Do they feel genuine? Do their experiences reflect yours? The best student leaders are relatable, approachable, and ready to listen.

💡 Why Do They Want to Lead?

Motivation matters. Candidates explain why they want to become a Student Leader — and this tells you a lot. Are they focused on making a difference for students, or just holding a position? Look for passion, purpose, and a clear understanding of the role.

🎯 Are Their Priorities Your Priorities?

Every candidate sets out three pledges — the issues they would focus on if elected. This is where you should pause and reflect. Do these pledges tackle the things that affect your student experience? Can you see how they would improve life at Arden? If their priorities match yours, they’re on the right track.

🗣️ Do They Have What It Takes?

Candidates also share why they think they’d be a great Student Leader. This might include skills, experience, or personal qualities. Ask yourself whether you’d trust them to speak up for students, work with others, and represent diverse voices across Arden.

🔍 Do They Understand You?

Finally, candidates are asked what they think is the biggest challenge facing Arden students. This is a key moment. Does their answer reflect your reality? Do they show understanding of different study modes and student needs? When a candidate truly understands students, it shows.

✅ Your Voice. Your Choice.

Voting isn’t about popularity — it’s about representation. Choose candidates who understand your experience, share your priorities, and are ready to stand up for students.

Because student leadership works best when it’s powered by informed, engaged voters — like you 💪🎓
