Nominations for this year’s Student Leadership Elections have officially closed, and we want to start by saying a huge well done and thank you to everyone who got involved.
Standing for election takes confidence, commitment and care for your fellow students. Whether you nominated yourself, encouraged a friend to put their name forward, or supported someone through the process, you’ve played a vital role in strengthening student democracy. By stepping up, you’re helping to shape the future direction of your Students’ Association and the student experience.
The full list of candidates will be announced on Tuesday 9 June, so keep an eye on our website and social channels.
Voting will take place online via Your Students’ Association website between 12:00 Monday 15th June – 12:00 Friday 19th June. To make sure you’re ready to have your say, here’s everything you need to do before voting opens.
1. Make sure you can log in to the Students’ Association website
Voting is done entirely online, so it’s important to check your access early.
Before voting opens:
- Visit Your Students’ Association website
- Try logging in using your student details
- Check that you can access election pages without any issues
If you’ve forgotten your password or experience any problems logging in, sorting this now will save you stress during the voting period and ensure you don’t miss your chance to vote.
2. Test the voting system before voting opens
To help you feel confident, we’ve set up a practice election that lets you try the system in advance.
Head to our home page and take part in our Give it a Go election. This allows you to:
- Check that the voting system works on your device
- Get familiar with how to cast your vote
- Understand how to rank candidates correctly
This test election doesn’t count - it’s purely there to help you feel ready and confident when it matters.
3. How does the preferential voting system work?
Our elections use a preferential voting system, designed to make voting fairer and more representative.
Here’s how it works:
- You rank candidates in order of preference (1st choice, 2nd choice, 3rd choice, etc.)
- You don’t need to rank every candidate - you can stop whenever you like
- If your first‑choice candidate doesn’t receive enough votes to win, your vote can be transferred to your next preference
This system helps ensure that elected officers have broad support from students and that your vote continues to count, even if your first choice is unsuccessful.
4. Book a reminder to vote
We know student life is busy, and it’s easy to forget dates - so we’ve made it easier to remember.
You can book a reminder to vote from our home page. If you do, we’ll send you an email during the voting period to remind you to take part.
You can still vote at any time between 12:00 Monday 15th June – 12:00 Friday 19th June, but booking a reminder is a simple way to make sure you don’t miss out.
5. Review the candidates from 9th June
From Tuesday 9th June, you’ll be able to explore:
- The candidates standing for each role
- Their election manifestos
- What they’re campaigning for and the changes they want to make
Reading manifestos is your chance to understand each candidate’s priorities, values and ideas for improving the student experience. Taking a few minutes to review them will help you make an informed decision when voting opens.
Student Officers represent your voice, advocate for your needs, and lead change on the issues that matter to students. Voting is one of the most direct ways you can influence your Students’ Association and the year ahead.
Get election ready, get informed, and make sure your voice is heard.
