Winter can be tough - here’s how your Vice President Student Needs makes it a little brighter.
Getting Through Winter, Gently
Winter can feel slow and heavy, so I try to start my days in a calm and comforting way. Most mornings begin with a warm bath and my favourite tea. Then I have breakfast and get ready for the day. Even if I’m staying home, I still get dressed properly. Wearing cute loungewear helps me feel put together and lifts my mood.
During winter, I’m home a lot unless I’m out for work or errands. Instead of fighting that, I lean into comfort. Warmth is a big part of how I get through this season. I love going to spas, saunas, thermal baths, or anywhere warm and relaxing. These places help my body relax and give my mind a break from stress.
I also enjoy simple solo time. Reading a book in a coffee shop is one of my favourite winter habits. Being around people but still in my own space feels comforting. At home, I like doing sip and paint sessions, either alone or with friends. It’s creative, calming, and a nice way to stay connected.
Spending time with friends is important to me in winter. We usually plan one or two small activities every weekend. This could be afternoon tea at different restaurants, going to the movies, or painting together. Having something to look forward to makes the week feel lighter.
Recently, I started doing sound bath sessions. A sound bath uses calming sounds and vibrations to relax the body. It helps reduce stress, improve sleep, and leaves you feeling peaceful.
I also try to move my body in gentle ways. Long walks and bike rides help clear my head, especially during daylight hours. Fresh air, even for a short time, can really change how the day feels.
Small tips for winter:
• Add warmth wherever you can - baths, tea, cosy clothes
• Get dressed, even if you’re staying home
• Plan small things to look forward to
• Stay connected in simple ways
• Move gently and get outside when you can
Winter doesn’t have to be rushed or fixed. Sometimes the best thing we can do is slow down, stay warm, and take care of ourselves one day at a time.
